A&M–Central Texas Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Clifton T. Jones said the collaboration is a great opportunity to build on the working relationship between the two schools and provide additional degree options to people in Temple and along the I-35 corridor.
“This is an exciting opportunity,” Jones said. “We have worked closely with Temple College to provide transfer opportunities for their students coming to us. Now, we get the opportunity to increase the number of degrees we can bring to them.
Temple College President Christy Ponce
“Temple College President Christy Ponce played a huge part in getting this initiative started and we are grateful for her leadership and what this means for both schools.”
Established in 2009, Texas A&M University–Central Texas is the only upper-division university in the state, working extensively with community colleges in the region to provide a seamless transfer experience to those students seeking to complete a bachelor’s degree. This education model helps to keep costs low, while providing a high-quality bachelor’s degree from a Texas A&M University System school.
Located in Killeen, A&M–Central Texas offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees both in person and online. Jones and the A&M–Central Texas administration hope adding programs and course offerings in Temple will provide an additional avenue for students to achieve their academic goals.
“Our goal is to provide education that is relevant to the region,” Jones said. “We think the people of Temple will be excited about what we have planned and what it will mean for the local workforce and for improved job opportunities for those students who choose to continue their education with us.”
Jones said A&M–Central Texas and Temple College are hoping to make the official announcement in October, if not sooner.
