A&M-Central Texas Launches On-Campus Recycling Program

Texas A&M University-Central Texas has partnered with the City of Killeen to host a mobile recycling trailer on campus, expanding convenient, community-supported recycling services for students, faculty and staff. The trailer will be stationed at the northeast corner of Parking Lot A, beneath the shade canopy every Monday morning through Friday afternoon, excluding university holidays.

By collaborating with the city’s Solid Waste Services division, the university seeks to reduce landfill waste and foster environmental stewardship across the community. Campus members are encouraged to sort materials at home or in their offices and deliver them to the trailer during its scheduled hours.

Students are encouraged to arrive early, engage with library staff, and explore the academic resource available on site.

Materials should be prepared according to the following guidelines:

  • Plastics (bottles, jugs, cans, jars labels No.1 PETE or No.2 HDPE): Remove lids; ensure the opening is no larger than the base; crush when possible. Plastic film, bubble wrap, food-soiled packaging, and motor-oil containers are not accepted.
  • Paper and Cardboard: Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, office paper, and clean corrugated cardboard. Keep items try; flatten or break down boxes,
  • Metal Cans (steel, tin, aluminum): Rinse to remove residue, flatten if feasible. Labels may remain, but removed labels are preferred. Empty aerosol cans are accepted.
  • Glass (clear, green and brown bottles and jars): Rinse, drain liquids, and remove lids. Broken glass, ceramics, mirrors, windowpanes, and light bulbs are excluded.
