Strategic Partners Education Advisory Council (SPEAC)
The preparation of educators shall be a collaborative effort among public schools accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and/or TEA-recognized private schools; regional education service centers; institutions of higher education; and/or business and community interests; and shall be delivered in cooperation with public schools accredited by the TEA and/or TEA-recognized private schools. At Texas A&M University-Central Texas (A&M University-Central Texas), the functioning advisory committee is the Strategic Partners Education Advisory Committee (SPEAC).
Purpose
To support the mission of Texas A&M University-Central Texas and the College of Education and Human Development Educator Preparation Programs’ efforts to prepare new teachers and leaders who are teaching our nation’s students to be college and career ready.
The advisory committee shall:
- Review and provide input for the items on the agenda
- Assist in the identification of employment needs in area school districts
- Review changes in program guidelines and policies as presented by staff
- Review curriculum changes presented by the program staff
- Provide input in the evaluation of the overall program
- Identify local business/industry leaders who will provide students with external learning experiences, employment, and placement opportunities.
The SPEAC committee at A&M University-Central Texas will meet annually each academic year.
Membership
Each Advisory Committee shall consist of a minimum of five members representing central Texas school districts (including HR representatives), a regional education service center, representatives from community colleges, A&M University-Central Texas faculty, and business and community interests.
Advisory committee members shall be selected to ensure representation from the various stakeholder groups representing the central Texas area. Recommendations for appointments to the committee shall be submitted to the co-chairs of the committee for consideration.
The Strategic Partners Education Advisory Council is comprised of members representing the following stakeholders:
- Local School District Representatives (superintendents, directors, principals, teachers, counselors, specialists, etc.)
- Higher Education Representatives
- Regional Education Service Center Representatives
- Business & Community Representatives
Outcomes
Information generated by the Strategic Partners Education Advisory Council will be used by Texas A&M University-Central Texas, Central Texas School Districts, and Central Texas Community Constituents to:
- Make systemic changes to the curriculum within teacher and leader preparation programs;
- Generate teacher and leader preparation reports that will be disseminated to the public;
- Pursue external resources to support changes to the teacher and leader preparation programs; and
- Implement research studies to meet the needs of our Central Texas Community.
