Earn your degree with less debt by understanding and applying your Hazlewood Exemption.Hazlewood
The Hazlewood Act is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified Veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, books, or supply fees.
Eligibility
Complete the following steps to utilize your Hazlewood Benefits
1. Apply for Admission to TAMUCT:
a. Apply Online
b. Schedule an appointment to meet with an Enrollment Specialist
2. Apply for VA Education Benefits and Financial Aid:
Learn about the different VA Education Benefits and Apply Online.
a. How to: obtain a DD214 or equivalent
b. How to: obtain a Certificate of Eligibility for Post 9/11 GI Bill®
Veterans and military affiliated students may be eligible to receive additional Financial Aid while attending college.
The application is free and doesn’t impact your VA Benefits.
Complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA):
Apply Online and Schedule an appointment to meet with the Financial Aid Office.
3. Create a MyCT Account: Warrior Tech Desk Instructions
4. Submit College and Military Transcripts:
TAMUCT is committed to providing you with credit for your prior college and/or military service.
Request Military Transcripts:
a. Air University
b. Joint Service Transcript
5. Attend New Student Orientation:
New Undergraduate students are required to complete orientation prior to registering for classes.
Register for an online or in-person session
6. Meet with an Academic Advisor:
Your Academic Advisor is here to assist you in building an educational plan that aligns with your interests and career goals.

7. Register for Classes and Request Hazlewood Benefits:
After determining which classes to take, it’s time to register and request your Hazlewood Benefits.

b. Submit an Enrollment Certification Request
Complete Hazlewood Application:
a. Veteran and 100% Disability Spouse/Dependent Children: Initial Hazlewood Exemption Application
b. Legacy Dependent Children of Veteran (less than 100% disabled): Initial Legacy Hazlewood Exemption Application
Note: The Enrollment Certification Request and Hazlewood Application need to be submitted each semester and lets our office know you would like to use your benefits. Your benefit will not be processed without these documents, causing delays in your payments.
