College of Arts & Sciences Student Worker Spotlight

College of Arts & Sciences loves our student workers! We appreciate all their time and hard work they put forth to help our college. Read their stories below!

Alhely Ortega Avo

Alhely has been a student worker since Fall 2024 with TAMU-CT CAS. Her favorite part about being a student worker is getting to know the University staff and being able to help professors around campus. She is getting her bachelor’s in social work, and after graduation in Summer of 2026, Alhely plans to obtain her master’s in social work and subsequently get her licensure. She chose TAMUCT because of the GTF program offered for Early College students, and the ability to transfer her college credits from Central Texas College. Fun fact about Alhely – her daily driving car is a manual transmission!

CAS Student Worker

Marihelen Oxford

Marihelen started as a TAMUCT CAS Student Worker in September 2025, recommended by one of the history professors! She is currently studying History, and plans to earn her Masters, and possibly her Doctorate, while exploring Germany after graduating. She chose TAMU-CT due to the location and was familiar with our university as her husband was previously a student. As a student worker, she is looking forward working closely with the professors and helping in any way she can. Fun fact about Marihelen – she is learning German and has been to 9 European countries.

CAS Student Worker

Chante Webb

Chante started as a TAMU-CT CAS Student Worker recently this year in October. She is most looking forward to getting to know TAMUCT as a body and not just individual departments. Chante’s favorite part of the student worker program is that it provides the position and opportunity to take steps needed to get to a place of familiarity of the community she is part of! After a projected graduation in 2027 with a degree in Social Work, she sees herself out in the community being a bridge in the local community teaching others about mental health and geniality of having emotional intelligence, good mental health, self-love and self-preservation. She chose TAMU-CT to further her education from the recommendation of pillars of the community who vouched for the programs and praised the TAMU-CT Code of Ethics. Chante is not only a college student, student worker, but a mother of 4!

CAS Student Worker, Torri Gutierrez

Torri Gutierrez

Torri started as a TAMU-CT CAS Student Worker recently this year in October. Her favorite part, so far, is getting to know the advisors and faculty/staff in the social work department! She plans to graduate in May of 2026 with her BA in English and go to pursue a degree in law! She chose TAMUCT because of the resources it has for both students and faculty, and the community drive. Torri found the amount of advocated benefits and financial ease to be the best in the Central Texas area. Fun fact about Torri – she has fostered 25 dogs and 20 cats, together, at the same time!!
