Texas A&M University–Central Texas is hosting an open discussion about artificial intelligence (AI) and how it uses data. “You Told AI What? What Happens to Your Data After You Hit Enter” will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the Bill Yowell Conference Center on campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

“We spend a lot of time talking about what AI can do for us. Now it’s time to ask what happens to the information we give it,” said Assistant Professor of Marketing Sunme Lee, Ph.D., who is organizing the event.

Lee and Centex Technologies Founder and CEO Abdul Subhani will lead the discussion. Lee’s research centers on AI and how it is used.

“AI has become part of our everyday lives. We use it to write emails, complete assignments, make decisions, and solve problems, often without thinking twice about the information we share,” Lee said. “But how many of us really understand what happens to that information after we hit enter?”

Lee said her intent is not to make people afraid of AI, but to help them become more curious and informed, and to better understand what questions to ask and what information to share through AI platforms.

Sponsored by The College of Business Administration, the discussion is open to community members, along with university faculty, staff and students. It will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Refreshments will be served. Seating for event is limited and organizers are asking that you register by completing the form at this link.
