Representative Brad Buckley Receives Warrior Leadership Award

As part of its December graduation ceremony on Friday, Dec. 12, Texas A&M University–Central Texas presented State Representative Brad Buckley with the Warrior Leadership Award. Buckley, who served as the commencement speaker, was recognized for his contributions to education in central Texas.
A&M–Central Texas President Richard M. Rhodes, Ph.D., presented the award.
“We value your friendship and thank you for your service to our nation, our state, our community, and especially A&M Central Texas,” Rhodes said. “We welcome you as the newest Texas A&M University–Central Texas Warrior.”
Along with the award which recognizes Buckley for “demonstrating unwavering leadership in the Texas House of Representatives, resulting in the creation of innovative new programs and services to further strengthen the educational and economic security of Central Texas veterans,” the Texas A&M University–Central Texas Foundation is creating a Dr. Brad Buckley endowed scholarship fund to benefit future Warriors.
Moments earlier, Buckley had challenged some 329 graduates to always consider all sides of every issue when making a future decision. Drawing from the example of artificial intelligence and the unanswered questions that surround the new technology, Buckley pointed out that innovation no matter how helpful or beneficial moving forward, always has a cost.
“I believe the path to good policy to truly making things better relies on different individuals with different points of view coming together to study, to discuss, and even to respectfully debate the path forward,” Buckley said. “This is why we have universities.”
He said that with every innovation comes disruption. While the cost of thid disruption is way more good than bad, Buckley said it’s important to consider every side of the issues to make the best, most informed decision.
“Remain a student at heart long past your days as a student,” Buckley said. “I believe the brain is the God-given hard drive that will always produce the answers we seek. Our brain, our intelligence is our superpower, and we must continue to exercise it for the good of all of us.”
