Dr. Dawn Riess is an Assistant Professor of Nursing. Dr. Riess earned her Ph.D. in Nursing Education with an emphasis on empathy and simulation. Dr. Riess was an Associate Professor at Temple College School of Nursing from 2009-2021. She is a member of the Texas Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau. Dr. Riess believes in caring for her community, students, and peers. She is on the Board of Directors for Immanuel Lutheran Ministries and volunteers frequently at civic organizations. Dr. Riess teaches her students that caring is the art of nursing science and a key component of holistic nursing care. Life-long learning and compassionate care are the cornerstone of her nursing philosophy. Dr. Riess is a practicing nurse currently working in a long-term acute care hospital with a Cardiac, ICU, and medical/surgical practicing background. She is currently conducting research on the effects COVID-19 had on nurse educators.
