Mr. Ryan Bayless, MFA


Ryan Bayless is an Adjunct Professor of English and Fine Arts. His poetry centers on the intersection of human and natural environments, and his book, Driving Under the Influence of Hawks, was selected as a finalist for the 2016 Codhill Poetry Award. His poems have been widely published in journals including Written River, Canary, Split Rock Review, Tipton Poetry Journal, The Visitant, and Right Hand Pointing. His critical essays have been published in The Explicator and Literature/Film Quarterly, and he has given readings and presentations at annual conferences for the Western Literature Association, the Modern Language Association, the American Academy of Religion, and the Popular Culture Association. Mr. Bayless has also served as the editor of The Lookout, TAMUCT’s student journal of literature and the arts. In addition to teaching creative writing, composition, and literature courses, Mr. Bayless also teaches a variety of Fine Arts classes that take an interdisciplinary approach to art, music, and film. By employing both analytical and creative approaches to literature and the arts in a wide range of courses, Mr. Bayless strives to provide his students with the critical thinking and writing skills necessary to examine the constantly evolving American identity and their place within it.
