Eight faculty, staff, and students from Texas A&M University–Central Texas attended the Texas Conference on Student Success in Austin, an event supported by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The A&M–Central Texas contingent highlighted innovative initiatives on campus and explored strategies to help students thrive.

Stephanie Legree-Roberts presented the Success 360 Initiative, detailing how the Student Success team supports non-traditional and online learners.

A collaborative research project also took center stage. Alexandra Penrose, an Applied Psychology graduate student, joined faculty members Malin Lilley, Assistant Professor of Psychology, and Madelynn Shell, Associate Professor of Psychology, to present findings alongside Michelle Sandy, Queen Miller, and Samuel Fiala, Assistant Vice Provost and Assistant Vice President. Their work examined student perceptions of assets and barriers to success and how these insights shape the Psychology Major Seminar course.

Penrose said participating this type of conference was a great experience.

“I was able to participate in sessions and workshops that helped me grow my skill set,” she said. “However, I think the best part of the experience was getting a glance ‘behind the curtain’ at the dedication our faculty and Student Success team have towards helping us, as students, have the best experience in college.”

Attendees returned with fresh ideas to strengthen campus initiatives, including data-informed decision-making, enhanced collaboration between faculty and Student Affairs, and expanded peer mentoring programs.
