Biography

Dr. Jerry W. Jones is Acting Dean, College of Arts and Sciences and professor of history at Texas A&M University – Central Texas. He received his Ph.D. in history from the University of North Texas in 1995. His specialties are military history, diplomacy, and modern European history. He started the Social Sciences Program for the University of Central Texas in 1996. In 1999 he joined Tarleton State University Central Texas and introduced the MA in history at Killeen. In 2001 he was appointed to the Academy of Educator Faculty, part of the Texas A&M University System Regents’ Initiative for Excellence in Educator Preparation. He was the first chair of the department of Humanities at A&M – Central Texas, and he was the founding dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 2014-2022. He currently serves as the interim dean for Arts and Sciences. He is the author of a monograph, U.S. Battleship Operations in World War I, published by the U.S. Naval Institute, and an anthology with Graham Wrightson, The Many Faces of War and Peace: A Survey of War throughout the Ages, by Marine Corps University Press.  He has published in the Naval War College Review and Presidential Studies Quarterly. He serves as a guest lecturer for the U.S. Naval War College Fleet Seminar Program. He has been featured in a lecture series on American History TV.
