Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Practicum is your first supervised clinical experience and serves as the bridge between classroom learning and professional counseling practice. During practicum, students begin providing counseling services to clients while receiving close supervision from both a qualified site supervisor and TAMUCT faculty. This experience allows students to apply counseling theories and foundational clinical skills in a supportive learning environment while developing their professional identity.

At Texas A&M University–Central Texas, practicum is completed at the on-campus Community Counseling and Family Therapy Center (CCFTC). The CCFTC is a community-based training clinic that provides affordable counseling services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Counseling services are delivered by master’s-level counseling students under the supervision of licensed counseling professionals, allowing students to gain valuable real-world clinical experience before transitioning to community internship placements. 

Practicum Requirements:

• 100 total clock hours
• Minimum of 40 direct client contact hours
• Conducted at the Community Counseling and Family Therapy Center (CCFTC)
• Weekly individual or triadic supervision with a qualified site supervisor
• Weekly group supervision with TAMUCT faculty
• Research
• Practicum
• Internship
