Effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy on the signs, symptoms and clinical consequences of premature ejaculation
Treatment Summary: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: In this study 15 married heterosexual males of which 3 did not complete treatment. An assessment was conducted to measure current functioning. Participants were between the ages of 25-40 years old. Treatment involved 8-12 sessions for 45-90 minutes. Cognitive behavior therapy was found to increase ejaculation latency by using a start-stop and technique. Cognitive techniques were used to reduce stress thus reassuring patient of the ability to manage premature ejaculation. Patients were educated to recognized predictive bodily sensations occurring prior to ejaculation. Upon completion of treatment, participants were given a post-test assessment. Participants reported improvement of symptoms an increase sexual esteem, anxiety, depression, fear and improved partner satisfaction. (Mohammadi, Mohammadkani, Dolatshahi, & Dadkhah, 2013)
