Learning Center

Real people helping real people: The LC prepares writers of all levels and abilities at any stage of the writing process, helping students with subject comprehension, exam preparation, and building their learning confidence. Online or in-person, the LC is at your service.

Welcome to the Learning Center at A&M–Central Texas

The Learning Center (LC) at A&M–Central Texas empowers students in all stages of their academic journeys through innovative workshops, supplemental instruction, individualized tutoring services, and by providing practical resources.

The LC has qualified tutors and supplemental instructors to assist students with subject area tutoring and writing across all disciplines. We are current and former students here to help you from your first day all the way through graduation. We offer in-person and online tutoring with evening and weekend hours.

Our services are for all students at all levels, not just struggling students. There are no stigmas here. We all need help along the way, and that’s why we’re here. Real people helping real people.

Writing Assistance

We get it. Writing doesn’t come naturally to everyone, especially when it comes to essays and research papers. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with citations, formatting, and making sure you check every box on that assignment description. Those deadlines start looming, but you’re still staring at a blank page. We’ve been there, and we know how to get you through it.

We are here to guide you through all stages of your writing, from brainstorming to fine-tuning those APA citations. While we won’t write or edit your papers, we will provide you with actionable feedback and helpful resources.

Subject Area Assistance

Our tutors have a range of expertise across multiple subjects and disciplines. Not sure how to calculate or report those statistics? We can help. Had a long break since you were in school and math seems scary? We can help. We have everything from general tutors to English, business, science, counseling, and political science majors.

Maybe it’s not subject-specific. If you’re new to Canvas or trying to navigate all of these other platforms and software applications, we’ve got you covered. Don’t let frustration and stress take over. Come see us.

On-Demand Assistance

In addition to our on-campus tutoring, we also offer access to third-party tutoring for 24/7 online assistance. This service is a great resource for those late nights when our TAMUCT tutors aren’t available or you need help with something outside of our expertise. To access on-demand tutoring, choose the “Live Help” option after clicking the Book an Appointment link or launch Brainfuse Online Tutoring from your Canvas courses.

Chad Pettit

Meet the Director – Chad Pettit

The Learning Center is committed to student success. That commitment is at the forefront of Director Chad Pettit’s vision for the LC to be a welcome and inviting place where all students can find a helping hand and answers to those questions that inevitably arise in higher education.

Chad brings a wealth of experience and a passion for education to our university. In addition to leading tutoring and supplemental instruction, he is an adjunct English professor, and he taught high school for eight years. Before that, he worked as a CNC machinist and had a few odd jobs after his time in the infantry. Like so many of you, he worked nights and raised children while working on his education. That’s why it’s important to him that success services here at A&M–Central Texas meet your needs and are as accessible and practical as possible.
