Monthly Enrollment Verification
The VA has communicated that this process will be implemented over phases, starting with Non-College-Degree Students and later extended to students attending Institutions of Higher Learning on December 17, 2021. We will continue to keep our Post 9/11 students updated.
As of August 1, 2021 Post 9/11, students must verify their enrollment status each month to receive their monthly housing allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payments.
Student can verify their enrollment status in one of two ways:
- Text Messaging – Students who choose VA’s “Opt-In” feature will receive a text message each month prompting them to verify their enrollment status.
— If no changes have occurred to the enrollment, students should reply YES to the verification text, and will receive MHA.
— If students have encountered a change in enrollment students should reply NO or report a change by phone will prompt the VA to confirm with the school and send an updated enrollment. MHA payments will be held in the meanwhile.
To opt in, the VA will send a text to the phone number indicated on your VA Education Benefit application, respond YES to “Opt-In” and receive enrollment text messages from VA. There are 4 phone numbers associated with the text messages beneficiaries will receive when being asked if they would like to op in or verify their monthly enrollment:- 202-519-1441
