Theresa Libios
Dr. Theresa Libios is an assistant professor in the Counseling and Psychology Department at Texas A&M University – Central Texas within the College of Education and Human Development.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Southern New Hampshire University, a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision.
Dr. Libios is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She has experience in primary, junior, and secondary education. In addition, she has experience in post-secondary education teaching synchronous and asynchronous courses. Her professional practice as an LPC includes psychoeducation, individual, family, and group counseling, with specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and play therapy.
She participates in service roles with the Association of Play Therapy, Association for Creativity in Counseling, and American Counseling Association.
Dr. Libios has taught courses across the counseling curriculum, including Practicum, Assessment and Testing, Counseling Children and Adolescents, Social and Cultural Foundation, Advanced Play Therapy, Psychopathology, Ethical and Legal Issues, Marriage and Family Counseling, Research and Program Development. She is committed to fostering culturally responsive pedagogy, mentorship of graduate counseling students, and bridging research with clinical practice.
Her research interests include counselor burnout, culturally responsive play therapy, intersectionality, and trauma-informed care. She has presented nationally on cultural topics in play therapy, family therapy, and counselor education.
