Specialist School Psychology

Availability: On-Campus
Program Length: 63-69 Hours

Program Overview

The specialist degree in School Psychology, which is between a Masters and a Doctoral degree, is designed to help students achieve licensure from the State of Texas as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP). An LSSP is responsible for providing psychological services to public school children addressing a wide range of behavioral and emotional needs.

Class work focuses on developing skills in assessment, intervention, and consultation by preparing students to intervene in difficult situations with a positive impact. Graduates have a strong record of successful job placement, with many hired in school districts throughout the region. Other graduates have continued to doctoral programs in School Psychology and related fields.

Faculty areas of research include school threats, bullying, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and military families.

Three business professionals working together

LSSP coursework combines web-enhanced and on-campus learning, with a two-semester long internship at the end of the program, which is typically completed in a public school setting.
