What Are Micro-Credentials?
A micro-credential issued by the A&M–Central Texas College of Education and Human Development gives you a chance to highlight your marketable skills and academic accomplishments.
Micro-credentials are narrower in scope and shorter in duration than bachelor’s or master’s degrees and, in some cases, are shorter than certificate programs, as well. To earn a micro-credential, students must be enrolled as graduate students at A&M–Central Texas, earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the micro-credential courses and receive no grade lower than a C.
The courses you successfully complete may also be used to satisfy elective hours needed for graduate degree programs at A&M–Central Texas.

Graduate Micro-Credentials
Dyslexia Education

- Length: 9 Hours
This micro-credential is for educators who want to better meet the needs of students with dyslexia and other reading disabilities.
Texas A&M University–Central Texas’s Dyslexia Education Micro-credential is for educators who want to better meet the needs of students with dyslexia and other reading disabilities. Students enrolled in a graduate program within the College of Education and Human Development, or non-degree graduate students will take three online courses focused on the principles and practices of structured literacy instruction and evidence-based literacy intervention and assessment for students with dyslexia and other reading disabilities.
These are 8-week courses. If you have a degree in education and have enrolled in our graduate program, you will be prepared to start the first course, READ 5377, a prerequisite for the other two courses. The remaining courses, READ 5371 and READ 5378, can be taken separately or at the same time. Once completed, these three courses count as graduate-level credit and can be applied to the master’s program in education.
After completing the three courses, students will receive a badge from Texas A&M University–Central Texas. To become a nationally certified Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher designated by The Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), an affiliate of the International Dyslexia Association, students can take the Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI) exam.
