Hazlewood Act
The Texas Hazlewood Act Exemption entitles eligible persons an exemption of tuition and specified fees of up to 150 semester credit hours at public institutions of higher education in Texas. Processing Certification Requests Received on: 17 September, 2025Overview

How to Qualify
- Apply to Texas A&M University–Central Texas
- Submit all transcripts to A&M–Central Texas. Send all transcripts to the following address:

- Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps & Navy access your Joint Service Transcript at https://jst.doded.mil

- Texas A&M University–Central Texas
- Meet with academic advising (undergraduate students) or faculty advisor

- Login with your student email and password to register for courses in Warrior Web

- Provide your required documents to the Military and Veteran Services Center.

Hazlewood Student Required Document Checklist
Veterans
- HE-Veteran Application
- Submit all transcripts to A&M–Central Texas
- Login using your Warrior Web account and visit https://tamuct.onecampus.com/page/all/va-hazlewood-exemption
- DD-214 Member copy 4: If needed https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records
- Provide a Certificate of Eligibility or ineligibility for federal education benefits from VA.gov (Required if the veteran has served after 9/11/2001). The COE must be dated no more than 3 months before submitting your HE Application.
- Printed confirmation page of Hazlewood database registration. Sign up at https://hazlewood.tvc.texas.gov/students/Account/Register
Legacy Program (Dependent Children using Transferred Hours)
- HE-Dependent Application and HE-Veteran Application filled out by veteran
- Login using your Warrior Web account and visit https://tamuct.onecampus.com/page/all/va-hazlewood-exemption
- DD-214 Member copy 4
- Provide a Certificate of Eligibility or ineligibility for federal education benefits from VA.gov (Required if the veteran has served after 9/11/2001). The COE must be dated no more than 3 months before submitting your HE Application.
- Proof of dependency (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, adoption documentation, or IRS transcript of tax return).
- Proof that the veteran is currently residing in Texas. Only if using the exemption for the first time after Fall 2011 (Copy of current utility bill, current lease, or mortgage agreement).
- Printed confirmation page of online Hazlewood database registration
- Sign up online at https://hazlewood.tvc.texas.gov/students/Account/Register
Spouse or Child (other than Legacy)
- HE-D Application and HE-V Application filled out by veteran
- Can be found at https://tamuct.onecampus.com/page/all/va-hazlewood-exemption
- DD-214 Member copy 4
- For Deceased Veterans: DD1300 if died while in service OR Letter from VA if died after discharge
- Provide a Certificate of Eligibility or ineligibility for federal education benefits from VA.gov (Required if the veteran has served after 9/11/2001). The COE must be dated no more than 3 months before submitting your HE Application.
- Proof of dependency (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, adoption documentation, or IRS transcript of tax return).
- VA disability ratings decision letter showing veteran is 100% disabled OR rated unemployable
- Printed confirmation page of online Hazlewood database registration
- Sign up online at https://hazlewood.tvc.texas.gov/students/Account/Register
Note: Veterans’ spouses are not eligible to receive a transfer of unused hours
