The Master of Education in Educational Leadership program will prepare you to utilize the skill sets needed for success in serving as a leader in education. The courses are specially designed to provide you with a wide range of experiences and knowledge to serve as principals and assistant principals in Texas schools. The program allows you to be mentored by a principal to gain real-world experience.

Following completion of the Educational Leadership program, you will be ready to take the Principal as Instructional Leader Certification examination available through the Texas Education Agency.

Background Checks

Texas Administrative Code (TAC) 227.101c) states that a person who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a State Board of Educator Certification-approved educator preparation program or planning to take a certification examination may request a preliminary criminal history evaluation letter regarding the person’s potential ineligibility for certification due to a conviction or deferred adjudication for a felony or misdemeanor offense. For more information about the Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation, go to the link: https://tea.texas.gov/Texas_Educators/Investigations/Preliminary_Criminal_History_Evaluation-FAQs

Field based experiences are required during the program. Candidate may also undergo a school district / campus criminal history check if the candidate is not employed by the district.

Program Completion and Certification Steps

  1. Successful completion of Principal Program
  2. Degree conferred
  3. Candidate requests official service record demonstrating two creditable years of teaching experience from school district Human Resources office (if not completed at time of application)
  4. Candidate successfully completes the most current TExES Principal as Instruction Leader 268 exam and the Performance Assessment for School Leaders (PASL) 368.
  5. Candidate creates a TEA/TEAL account and applies for standard principal certification. Notify “CT Educator Prep” [email protected] when this step is complete.
  6. Candidate is recommended for standard Principal certification.

Practicum Completion Requirements

  1. 160 hours during EDLD 5392 and 5393 courses
  2. Formal Observations following current TEA guidelines
  3. Field Supervisor and Site Supervisor Recommendation
