About Academic Advising
At A&M–Central Texas, academic advisors, faculty advisors and graduate program coordinators are here to help you identify, select and succeed in an academic program to further your career and future. These advisors are your best source of information on specific major requirements for graduation, course planning, insight into how majors and careers fit together, and preparation for further education. Advisors are assigned based on your intended major.
We also understand prospective students need advising too. Academic Advisors are available to provide prospective students a clear understanding of how credits transfer, which credits apply to specific degree requirements and what courses are still required to earn a bachelor’s degree at A&M-Central Texas. If you are not yet enrolled at A&M–Central Texas, we encourage you to reach out us or visit with an admission counselor to determine if your credits transfer and how to gain admission to the university.
Academic Advising Services
Meeting with an Academic Advisor is required for all newly admitted and re-admitted students prior to registering for their first semester. During this advising session, the Advisor and student will:
- Review transfer credits and how they can be applied to degree requirements
- Review DegreeWorks worksheet
- Officially declare intended major (as well as concentration and minor if required or desired)
- Discuss first semester courses
- Create semester by semester Graduation Plan
- Walk through registration process (if registration is currently open)
Advising sessions may be available face-to-face, by phone, by email, and/or by WebEx. To setup an appointment, please contact an advisor. It is highly recommended that students continue to meet with their advisor each semester to update graduation plan and discuss future course registration.
To inquire about a change of major, make an appointment with an advisor from your college to discuss the new degree requirements and update your degree plan.
Who is My Advisor?
Academic advisors are assigned based on college and major and offices are housed within each academic college on campus. Undecided students are encouraged to meet with the career and professional development office to help decide on a career path and then meet an academic advisor.
