The Associate of Science (AS) is designed to align closely with the first half of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Students
should follow the pre-major AS to BS Transfer Advising Guide for the major and university selected. The Transfer Advising
Guides are developed in conjunction with the senior institution to which the student plans to transfer.
To be awarded the AS degree at one of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District, students must have 9 hours of AS
Approved Course Requirements not included in the 42 hours of Core Curriculum. Please check with your advisor for
assistance.
Associate of Arts in Teaching
The AAT Degree Program Texas Teacher Certification targets individuals who have a desire to enter the field of education as a
teacher, school administrator, counselor, or some aspect of child/adolescent development. Students should check with the col-
lege department, the transfer center, or the university to which they plan to transfer for additional information.

Special Admission Requirements for Texas A&M University - Central Texas -
Education
Acceptance into the BS in Education Major:
Students will be accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Education major when they are accepted into the university and meet
application criteria required to enroll in Block I courses. Criteria include the completion of at least 54 hours required in the BS
in Education degree plan. Specifically, students should have completed:
Elementary (EC-6), All Level Special Education: two ENGL courses, college algebra, US History I and II, Texas and
Federal Government, and two of the three science courses with labs.
ELAR/SS (4-8), ELAR (4-8 and 7-12): four ENGL courses, college algebra, US History I and II, Texas and Federal
Government, and two of the three science courses.
Middle School Mathematics (4-8) and Middle School Social Studies (4-8): two ENGL courses, college algebra, US
History I and II, Texas and Federal Government, and two of the three science courses with labs.
Admittance into the Educator Preparation Program:
Students will apply to be admitted into the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) while enrolled in EDUC 3370 during Block I.
Entry Requirements needed in application to be admitted into the EPP include:
Complete an Educator Preparation Program application packet.
Have a minimum 2.50 grade point average (GPA) overall or in the last 60 hours to include semester where 60th occurred.
See required ENGL credit hours above with grade C or better.
College Algebra with a grade C or better.
Completion of 54 credit hours towards the degree.
For EC-6, SPED, 4-8 ELAR/SS, and 7-12 ELAR concentrations, a completion of 12 credit hours in the certification subject
area with a grade of C or better.
For 4-8 Math, a completion of 15 credit hours in the certification subject area with a grade of C or better.

Transfer of Credit
Community college courses may not transfer into TAMUCT as upper-division courses (3000-4000 level), even though
TAMUCT may have an upper-division course with exactly the same name and description. Community college courses may not
be used to fulfill the upper-division requirement for graduation at TAMUCT. However, the course may be used as a substitute
for an upper-division course with an approved substitution form signed by the chair and dean.
Affordability
Based on 2019-2020 reported average tuition and fees, Texas A&M University-Central Texas is the second most affordable in-
stitution in the state of Texas for full-time undergraduate students. Students are not only able to take advantage of guaranteed
tuition plans to control the cost of their education, but A&M-Central Texas’s Bachelor Bonus caps tuition and mandatory fees at

Texas Education Code § 54.014 specifies that resident undergraduate students who initially enrolled fall 1999 and later may
be subject to a higher tuition rate for attempting excessive hours at any public institution of higher education while classified as
