Killeen, Texas – A&M-Central Texas has received $1,318,324 authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
United States Senator John Cornyn announced the funding on Tuesday, April 14. A&M-Central Texas officials have been assisted by The Texas A&M University System to create the administrative structures needed to ensure funds are allocated within the parameters allowed by the federal government.
Half of the federal allocation – $659,162 – will directly support emergency aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of regular university operations due to COVID-19. The remaining one half of the funds help address expenses to the institution related to COVID19, including increased technology costs and health and safety precautionary measures.
A&M-Central Texas President, Dr. Marc Nigliazzo, expressed the gratitude of the university’s faculty, staff, and students for the support of the entire Texas delegation in securing these needed funds, including both Senator John Cornyn and Senator Ted Cruz, as well as Representative John Carter and Representative Roger Williams.
“At a time when so many of our students and the communities they live in are experiencing economic challenges, this federal funding will provide the financial assistance needed by students to continue their pursuit of a college degree, while also contributing to the state’s economic recovery and future vitality.”
Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management, Clifton Jones, added that A&M-Central Texas is ready to begin awarding CARES Act funds to eligible students with emergent circumstances.
