Summer 2020 Commencement Update

July 15, 2020

Dear Warriors,

Commencement is a cherished tradition and an opportunity for family and friends to join with university faculty and staff to celebrate the academic achievements of our A&M-Central Texas graduates. And we had sincerely hoped that in August we would emerge from the challenges of the pandemic with a more traditional, in-person commencement ceremony. Unfortunately, the unrelenting surge across Texas of positive cases and increasing hospitalizations from COVID-19 have required us to cancel the in-person ceremony we had scheduled for August 7, 2020, at the Bell County Expo Center.

We are, however, determined to recognize the achievement of our Summer 2020 graduates and will move ahead with a virtual recognition of them on August 7 that will be available online and on social media. In addition, we will announce a date for a “diploma pickup” sometime after our commencement day so that graduates may celebrate the awarding of their degrees in “drive thru” style! There will be opportunities for photos, and should family and friends wish to gather in their vehicles, they can still make themselves heard when their graduates make the drive through our campus to pick up that well-earned diploma.

We will remain hopeful that by December, 2020, we can return to an in-person commencement ceremony. Should that occur, we will invite all Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 graduates to join us who may still wish to make that traditional “walk” across the stage. But regardless of the method of commencement, please know that nothing will diminish the accomplishments of our Warrior graduates in pursuit of their degrees, or their great promise for the future.
