Dr. Roslyn Schoen is an Associate Professor of Sociology and full-time faculty member in the department of Social Sciences at A&M-Central Texas. Dr. Schoen received her PhD in sociology in from the University of Missouri – Columbia and completed postdoctoral training in Development Sociology at Cornell University. Her research focuses on the gendered consequences and unsolved conflicts brought about by development and globalization. Specifically, she examines rural development and women’s labor in Bangladesh, highlighting conflicts over what women could and should do given contradictory messages about women’s place in society. Dr. Schoen teaches courses on social inequalities, the family, aging, race and ethnicity, and qualitative research methods. She serves as advisor to the A&M-Central Texas sociology club and is a faculty representative on the A&M-Central Texas Undergraduate Council. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS) and the Southern Sociological Society.
